please somebody who knows tell me how to cut my bars, how, what to use and how long it takes, and if i should ask a bike shop to do it.

I use a pipe cutter I found on the street while riding. It cuts very straight, takes a couple minutes, smooth with file or sandpaper (the tool leaves a small lip on the outside and inside of the tube). The outside should be smoothed a bit so your grips slide back on. Another couple min w file.

A pipe cutter.That sounds great I have only used a hacksaw. I shall have to get a pipe cutter if i ever need to cut some bars. maybe i should think about what i can do with some extra long curved cruiser bars.

The pipe cutter is one of the best and least expensive ways to consistently get good clean bar cuts. It even works on heat treated bars, though it is VERY tough on the pipe cutters blade, so I recommend buying an extra blade or two for the cutter before you begin.

Also, measure twice, cut once, and if you aren't 100% positive how short to make your bars, take off less, then take off more later. You can NEVER put it back on again, and I have learned that myself the hard way. :(

It takes about 5 minutes to actually cut your bars, but spend an hour doing everything right and you will be a lot happier.

You dont need to do that.. just get a hack saw and cut them... It's no biggie. Cutting your dropouts would take a little know how or at least a little common sense, but as far as your bars, just cut them where you want them.

well what you do is you take a saw place it on your bars and move it forwsrds and backwards im sure your used to doing tat with your hands

take a hammer and a chisel and get it as straight as u can

A hacksaw usually doesn't give you a clean straight cut. While this isn't a HUGE issue, it isn't as clean as using a pipe cutter. Also, pipe cutters fit nicely into your toolbox while hacksaws take a ton of room.

They also sell tube cutting guides (Park Tools makes some) for cutting bars with a hacksaw really straight. The key is that you want your cut straight so no grip hangs over and less dirt can get in under stuff. This is easy to do with a pipe cutter, but tough to do with a hacksaw without a guide.

Oh yea, I cut my friend's bars with a pipe cutter. Those things are cool, totally go with that. I just used a hacksaw cause thats all I had..

If you have a 3/8" dropout and you got a 1/2" wheel, you could cut your dropouts to make it fit... You wouldnt use a hacksaw for that.. I used a grinder.
