Hi Guys:

I'm very new for single speed bike. Right now I'm looking for cheap and ok quality one. I have found those two so far, and I really don't know which one is better.

Gavin's price is $329
Se's price is $290
Do you have any recommendation?? Which one would you buy? Which one do you think is better?? If you had $400 in your pocket, which one would you buy (Including other brands).

Thanks for help

I would get something better than either of them from BikesDirect:

If you've got 400 bucks, the Kilo TT for $359 is probably your best bet but there are a lot of options there that are in your price range and better than the two bikes you listed.

the lager for 290 is a steal. that's cheaper than the dawes sst which is the bikes direct equivalent.

Oops - for some reason I read Lager but my brain was thinking Draft. Yeah, $290 for a Lager isn't too bad.

I had the Gavin Fisso for about 3 months, it then got stolen in Toronto on vacation. It is a really nice smooth bike, but like scrod said I would go for something else. Where the hell did you find a lager for that price?

That is a great price for a Lager, but I'm concerned that you might be looking at a listing on a scam site? I've seen a few sites with bikes at ridiculously low prices, but it turned out they were pretty obvious scams.

Do you mind sharing the link that you see the Lager at? You can PM me if you don't want to post it publicly for any reason.

Thanks for all suggestions
Here is the link that I got the price. Unfirtunately, I checked it again just now and the price just from $290 to $315.

Do you think this website is reliable?
Also, for the frame of Lager it said that it used 100% cro-mo. What's the difference among cro-mo and steel?

Chromoly is a type of steel.

I actually almost bought a Lager from Jenson recently, but the price jumped from $300 to $425, so I ended up getting a used bike.

For $315, the Lager is a pretty good deal, but the cheapest shipping (for me anyway) is $38, which makes the total $353. Bikesdirect has bikes for as little as $280 (Moto Track), so it's really up to you. Personally, I would probably get one of the $300 bikes with two brakes from BD, since it's about the best you can do at that price.

Thanks
Cos right now I'm considering the bike that Scrod recommended me. It's Kilo TT, which is $359 in BD.
Umm the more I search the more choices I got. really hard to decide ^^

Yep.

Also, the Kilo is a fixed gear, not a singlespeed. If you want singlespeed, the bike has to have a freewheel and two brakes, which the Kilo does not come with. You could install it yourself, but if you're not really good with bikes, you would probably be better off buying one of the pre-built SS options, like the Clockwork/Dawes SST/Messenger/etc.

oh I see. that s why I m wondering cos in the website, it says that free front and rear brakes. If BD gives me brakes, does it means that I can change it to single speed?
Sorry for a lit of questions. I'm really new about it.

Most of the BD bikes come as singlespeed, with the option to add a fixed cog if you want to make it fixed later. It'll say which cog it comes with in the description.

For singlespeed bikes, you must have two brakes, which not all the BD bikes come with. Again, the descriptions will mention whether it comes with any brakes and how many.

Alternatively, you could go to your local bike shop and see if they have cheap used bikes. Regardless, they could probably help you a lot with any questions you have.
