We are half way through the year and it is time for those who keep statistics to post them. Besides miles, feel free to provide total climbing and of course the average speed. If you are a known or confessed doper, post anyway, we do not care.:D

3590, which still puts me 160 miles behind the pace I need to be doing to reach my 7500 miles goal for the year. I rode to work 76 times the first half of the year, and I expect to be riding to work even more often as I take an extended break from long distance riding.

3515 miles with 204,500 feet of climbing with an average speed of 15.5 mph. Those statistics include races, training rides, trainer and track from all my bicycles.

117 ride days
3671 total miles
257 miles over LY
48.96 % of my 2010 goal

2376 miles, first three months on and off due to crashes. Don't keep track of elevation. First 1000 miles no computer, avg speed 16 +. If i stay upright should be around 6000 miles for the year. California is great for year round riding.

2700+ miles to date, already exceeding my total miles of last year. Won't have that many miles if I didn't ride during the winter months. I'm gonna finish '10 with over 4500 miles for sure.

It is clear that you cannot wrap your phallus around your waist - metric or not.:p

Do you include reps in the gym with your smile count i.e. one rep = one smile? Or do you grimace in the gym?:innocent:

Well, we have bicycling smile count as a distinct category.

Then we have swimming smile count, resistance training smile count and stretching smile count - also as distinct activities.

This makes for one heck of an Excel Spreadsheet, along with ranges, average, standard deviations, medians, modes and the like. Then, I try applying the stats to the entire population (of which I am only a sample of one) - I could stay up all night figuring out my smile stats - but I don't! :)

I no longer count walking smile counts, as my darn back is saying "I want your legs to go numb and then hurt when you walk" so I have reduced one of my favorite smile activities.

204500/(3515*5280/2) = 2.2% average grade (assuming all routes are loops)!

MY GPS records keep track of most of my miles except my commute miles and the few training rides where I don't bother with taking the GPS or the batteries went dead.
My guess therefore is a measly 1400 miles. As far as climbing, I can add up over 30,000' for just hill repeats and the times up Whiteface & Greylock. I could probably guess my climb elevation but just to put things in perspective - last weekends ride (see TRex ride thread (http://www.bikeforums.net/showthread.php?659722-TRex-Ride)) was 80 miles with 6000' of climbing. By the equation above that yields a 2.8% average grade - now I consider that ride as a very hilly ride - therefore I must conclude that you sure are doing a lot of climbing and your average terrain is not at all flat.

You are correct. On the peninsula there is limited flat terrain and it is mostly along the bay. The easiest terrain we have is rolling 1 to 2% with occasional short flat sections. And this is the bay area noted for sailing, so there is always wind. We do many rides that have 100 feet per mile of climbing.

Quite frankly, I think that climbing should be calculated as you noted. If I climb up Mount Hamilton that is 4400 feet of climbing (sea level to the top) but in reality there are 3 climbs and two descents. The 705 altimeter captures the descending and then restarts climbing. Now on Mount Hamilton that is probably fair. But on many of the rolling 1 to 2% grades the altimeter just keeps logging feet climbed even though, it is pretty easy compared to climbing Mount Hamilton.

Here is some terrain within a couple miles from my house where I do my climbing z4, z5 and z6s.

2838 with only 4 rides in Jan and zero in Feb. I wish I had more but I am still happy with what I have.

Average speed, which means nothing as we all know, is 17.26 for all rides. ( Deep Woods Off free too)

Total climbing ,not a clue to be honest. I do not have that on my Cateye.

1670 miles since my riding season began in mid-March. I wish it were more, but I travel too damned much I'm hoping that I can ride pretty much solid from mid-July through the end of August. My aim is to average 180 miles/week over that ~6 week period.

4594.14 at last report. I commute to work daily. Would have had more, but I broadsided a deer one morning and had to have a shoulder reconstructed.

I've not a freaking clue. My computer crashed and my GPS data was lost, AND the Garmin 305 was destroyed when I t-boned the dog on Memorial day. If I had to take a guess based on last week's total of 367 miles (went back to my old Cateye), I'd say 9542 miles. :innocent:

Jul-Dec 2009- total miles 242.82 miles
Jan-Jul 8 2010- total miles 224.52 miles
I also do weight training.

Somehow I think the answers should somehow be adjusted for climate. Maybe someone can figure out a climate factor map that either adjusts up or down depending on where you live. Maybe you could even get a gov. grant to do this, very PC no one should have an advantage.

4161.66 miles which accidently puts me about 500 miles ahead of last year. 83 rides with an average of about 47 miles per ride. I could figure out my average speed if I wanted to, but don't care. We do lots of hills, but I don't keep track of elevation because I don't have one of them fancy track keepers.

I noticed yesterday that I had turned over 2000 miles for the year. I don't track any details because I ride just because I like it.
I don't ride for fitness yet my belt is 4 notches tighter than it was last Christmas.
I don't ride for speed because I like to observe where I am and what is around me.
I don't race because there is nobody I want to beat....except maybe that annoying 10 year old down the street who loves to watch for me coming home in the evenings after a long ride and lines her pink Barbie bike up on the end of the sidewalk and races me to my driveway. She beats me every time. :innocent:

Based upon my work schedule:
25 work weeks => 25*13 miles*5 days = 1600 miles (one week vacation)

For the past month, it's been 20 miles per workday, so about 140 miles additional

Total -- about 1700 miles.
Each 10 mile commute is one hour door to door, so 10 mph average speed.

About 3000 this year so far and I'd guess 200K feet of climbing and average speed less than 15 mph. When I do a long climbing ride my speed for the day is about 10 mph including all stops.

3,321 miles year to date, about on pace with last year.

I also track (among other things) how many days I commute to work. 68 commutes year to date, 5 less than last year.

I think next year I am also going to track how many of my miles are in the rain (though might be simpler to track how many aren*t in the rain).

I'm not gonna' tell. It's been raining, or hot, or I've been swimming. But I'm fixinto (a Texas word) start ramping up the miles for the Hotter'n Hell and an Adventure Cycling tour in the fall.

Started riding (new bike--Trek FX7.3) due to running injury on 5/5/10. No riding since 1998. Current total 1,631 miles. Had logged 854 running miles before AT forced me to stop running for 6+weeks. Just getting back to running. Logged 10 miles so far back running. Just so you can be in awe: ran 2,705 miles last yr. Soon to be 67. Hope to be able to get back to 40+miles per week running and 100+ on the bike. Retirement is great!. Nick
