Hybrid Bicycles - Bought new hybride, a Globe

I now have four bikes. I wanted the lastest in comfort riding plus had a itch for a new bike
anyhow. They would not budge on list price, but I got what I wanted.
This model comes with a 28,38,48 front ringset. I wanted lower gearing for hill climbing
while staying on the seat so, I paid them to change out that ring set for
a 24,34,44 ring set. With the 700X38 tires this is a easy pedal up hills.
Anybody care to comment on my new custom hybrid. Thanks.

Hope you enjoy your new bike, I like the suspension saddle and post, regardless of all the
reviews on saddles. I find those to be the most comfortable on long rides, ( more than 2 hours ),
like the 24 speed, but you might be crying over those forks. Unless I missed something,
there like mine, and can not be locked out..( Bummer ) I'm just mad :mad: at myself for not
buying a bike with lock out forks...Never owned a Hybrid, and did not think of Road Riding..

The forks will be the next up grade for me...LOL..

It is a well-designed comfort hybrid. Very relaxed seat tube will sit you back in an upright riding position. I think Specialized did a very good job on their Carmel line. Although they might be overdoing it a bit by using both a suspension seat post and a spring loaded saddle. Sometimes that combination can feel a bit squirrelly.

Switching out the cranks will give you a very low gear range, same as a mountain bike.

why do you think his fork does not have a lockout? i havent read of a suntour n series fork without lockout, but i cant say for sure about his. considering his bike is in a different price range, i would doubt if there was no lockout. my gf's $450 schwinn searcher has a lockout fork, an rst brand. it may not lockout but on a laid back cruiser hybrid like his, it probably wouldnt even matter.

Usually if a fork has a lockout feature, it will say so on the spec sheet. It's a selling feature.

The fork is not a lock-out.
It can of course be adjusted down tight, but there is still some give in the fork.

agreed. it was a specific selling point to me when i was hybrid shopping, so i am in the same boat. but if i were in the mode to get a cruiser style bike, it probably wouldnt have even been considered.

Suspension forks on hybrids are usually for road suspension. Not sure I would want to do much singletrack on it. A cruiser bike derives suspension from sprung saddles and high volume tires.

It looks like a nice bike.
But do you really need that 24 crankwheel so much that you want to pay extra for it?

Yes. I would have bought a lower crankwheel if the LBS thought it would work OK.

Where I live it is very, very, hilly. When I pull out of my driveway I go UPhill or downhill to start off.

OH, and a lot of the hills are steep also.

uphill is left and downhill is right? so you live on a hill? better than living in a valley where both left and right are uphill!
