Southeast - Any riders in Columbia, SC or Midlands area

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Just curious about how many riders from the Midlands area are on BF. Looking for some local people to maybe learn some more from and get some tips about routes and recommended LBS's.

Let me know!

Not Columbia but not too far away. Charlotte, NC. Happy to have a ride partner. We have a load of rides around here and I am willing to travel for a good ride.

I'll actually be in Columbia this weekend looking around, maybe even getting a ride in. There is a possible relocation to that area in the future. Any info on what areas to avoid living in? The wife will be working at McEntire JNGB, which appears to be SE of town?

I love Charlotte. As soon as I get finally get ahold of a decent used road bike I think I'll take you up on that. I would actually love to make it up that way sometime soon.

I'm not super familiar with the McEntire base, but I know it's about 25 min outside of downtown. There are a couple of nice communities in the southeast area, but Columbia is one of those places that seems to blend seamlessly between beautiful parts of the city and parts that have been economically neglected. Most of the nicer communities are located in the northeast part of the county. I hope you guys enjoy your trip. It's not the greatest city in the world but it can definitely grow on you. Just try to stay cool in this killer humidity!

Sorry to start up an old'ish thread but I didn't want to start a new one with this one only being several months, but I am also heading to Columbia/Sumter area. I will be moving down end of September. Plan to commute depending on where we live, I hear Outspokin' is pretty nice but I have yet to check anything out. I ride Mtb and Road.

I will also be working at McEntire, my wife will be at Shaw.

I am in Northeast Columbia. I typically pseudo-lead a ride every Saturday morning in NE Columbia and we usually have 10-15 riders come out for it, have had as many as 30 before. We leave from just beside the Village At Sandhill.

There is also the Wednesday night shop ride from Summit Cycles and a Friday night ride that leaves from Lake Carolina.

We've got several neighbors/riders who work at both Shaw and some at McEntire. Feel free to PM me if you have any other questions.

We could be in the opposite situation, work wise. It seemed like a really nice area from the weekend we spent down there. The commute between the two bases is pretty easy but it appears to be a pretty busy 4 lane highway that runs between them. There is also a Armed Forces Cycling team member stationed at Shaw, forget the name? Good luck and maybe we'll run across each other!
