Hey thighmaster - the last time we heard from you was when you were embarking on Ride The Rockies. I didn't see a post ride report. How was it?

Ride the Rockies: It was brutal and beautiful. Total climbing about 28,000' over almost 600 miles. Regulars said it was the hardest course to date, and many thought it was too difficult because one didn't have much time to enjoy the towns where we stayed - too tired and not enough time for hanging out. It was not a vacation as much as an athletic event, tandem or no.

We made four passes on our 50 lb. Burley Duet- 90 miles, 12,000' climbing, 9 hours 50 minutes. Most amazing scenery. We did not make the cut-off time for the last pass, missed it by 15 minutes. But that was fine by us, we were happy to end it with enough energy left to head out and enjoy a beer and big spaghetti dinner. A total of 14 tandems this year. We were passed by six, and a few of those were just plain smoking past the solo riders up hill - a sight to behold.

Why would this course be harder? They use pretty much the same course every year. Was it harder? Because of the heat? I've done the DR 5-6 times and the only thing that makes it easier or harder is the weather and what condition my condition is...:)

I think he was referring to Ride The Rockies. The route varies every year and by all accounts, this was the hardest route in their 25 year history.

I think you may be correct. Makes sense. :) That's what I get when I tread too fast...;)
