Just purchased a Bontrager Privateer. The paint has a few chips, with some minor rust. Can such rust affect the integrity of the frame? Also any idea as to what the frame maybe worth?Collectors value?Im not sure of the year or what to look for to tell.

If it is minor surface rust that can easily be removed with a fine abrasive paper then it's unlikely to present a problem, but do remove it and seal with nail polish or touch up paint. If the rust is deep (or the tubes are exceptionally thin(unlikely on a MTB)) then you do have a potential problem.

If you're wanting to sell it I think original condition would be better than a respray, and I doubt whether you would recover the additional cost of a professional respray.

As to value, I have no idea, a lot depends on condition and size - very small or large frames tend to have less of a market.

I'd do a search on closed auctions on ebay to give you a rough idea.
