Bicycle Mechanics - A cure for creaky carbon - seatpost I think

I have a (nearly) new Wilier Mortirolo and the seatpost creaks - it's a Ritchey Pro carbon and the frame is carbon. Before I go to the bike shop and get sold something I don't really need, is there anything I can use to stop it?

First, is the creak in the seatpost/frame inteface or in the saddle rail/saddle clamp joint? There is a product called "Carbon Assembly Paste" that is recommended for carbon components in place of grease. It provides a non-slip function and keeps the seatpost from freezing in the frame too. So, the shop will sell you something you really do need.

+1 I also think you might be looking at a seat/clamp problem. I have a B67 that creaks, no matter what seatpost I use it on, so that may be a consideration too.

LBS cleaned and lubed the seatpost for free, but it's still creaking... or rather, the bike is still creaking. No creaking if I stand, or if I sit on the top tube (awkward, but it had to be done), so I guess it MUST be the saddle or tube. I'll get some lube and try to figure it out myself, otherwise it's a strip-down job.

+2 I had this problem, went the "Carbon Assembly Paste" route with no effect...then dis-assembled, lubed and re-tightened my saddle clamp and the squeak stopped.

My "S-Works" carbon seatpost clamp was the culprit when I was diagnosing my click/creak issue on my Tarmac. Try doing what dstrong suggested to see if it helps.

In my case a badly designed seat post is where the problem originated from. A Thompson post fixed everything.

The only firm evidence is that the creak stops when he stands or puts his weight on the toptube so that does point to the saddle/seatpost as the culprit.

Took off the saddle, cleaned the clamp, lubed and tightened it up. Things improved, but it's still creaking a little. I think it's the non-incremental saddle clamp, which is not that great a fit to the post - it kind of sits against the post on it's four corners. Most other clamps I've has have been incremental - I think... (certainly the Thomson's on my mtb's) or I've not noticed because they didn't creak. I'll probably live with it for a month or two and see if it 'beds in' at all.
