Mountain Biking - MYSTERY FRAME (anyone recognise this)

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

sorry, i realise that link looks a little suspect. if you go to the uk ebay site and search "aluminium mountain bike frame" (with speech marks) its the one ending first. cheers

Mystery frame indeed, I'm stumped. With the paint apparently stripped and with even the seller unable to ID the frame, personally I'd skip it.

If you're interested in it, ask for some detailed measurements and weight, and give it a shot. It's only $45 USD, why the hell not? If it turns out to be junk, donate it to a bike rescue place or something like it.

Unless of course you don't have $45 to blow, then stay away I suppose.

The "prototype" mention makes me wonder if the frame was even heat-treated. There was an Interbike incident a few years ago where Haro had some proto frames stolen from the venue -- they were non-heat-treated, just for display, there was some caution out there for a while.

The chainstays look like a Kinesis...my Komodo stays look suspiciously similar.

The canti-studs bother me. I think it could be some sort of a 2004-2005'ish era Kinesis.

Kinesis might be a good bet.

The following photo shows a frame with the same distinctive looking down tube: Kinesis KM3 Frame (http://www.solomons.co.za/files/dsc_0097.jpg)

good shout man, that down tube looks almost identical. i dont know kinesis very well but from a little googling they seem pretty decent, assuming the frame is theirs would you expect it to be good?

I'd say both are Kinesis. Kinesis builds for all kinds of people. For the price...I'd say go for it. Heck man...if it were stateside, I probably would have already snaked it out from under ya:lol:

was thinking of changing this forum to a general purpose forum for unknown frames, so anyone can upload pictures or a link to unknown frames and advise others.... is it possible to change the forum title/description now that its already begun? (im new)
