is there any advantage of one over the other, aside from being able to adjust and flip a threadless stem and headset? i'm thinking of switching to a threaded stem for asthetic reasons, but am wondering if there were any disadvantages. and i'm aware that this would mean switching to a threaded fork as well as well.

what kind of bike have you got? if it's an older bike (namely vintage track bike), go with threaded simply for aesthetics. newer bikes (or offroad bikes) look better with threadless. threadless has many advantages over threaded, though (easier to change bars or stem, easier to adjust the headset, generally stiffer, generally lighter, and if you set it up right, much easier to adjust the height of the stem).
