Hybrid Bicycles - Help me choose an economy hybrid

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Hi,
I am trying to choose between an old steel frame Schwinn Criss Cross hybrid that I think was made from 1990-1994 and a Schwinn Trail Way that was made in the past few years. Any suggestions?
I have attached pics of the two bikes I am looking at.

On what kind of riding your planning on doing, and the price of each. I'm a big fan
of Schwinn, are you going to be riding road or trails, without that information, I would have to say a new
FX would be better:lol: ( just kidding )... Richard ( forum joke)
Thanks. This will be strictly a road, around town bike. No trails. They are both only $75.
If they fit, buy 'em both! That way if one needs repairs or has a flat, you've got a back-up already to go.
Trek 7200 all day long best bang for the money....

I'd go with the older one unless it has visible frame damage (forks bent back, cracks in paint) or rust. Less frills and moving parts (suspension fork is for wussy.) Also it looks like less of a target than the new one. Unless you're planning on riding it in the winter - in which case I'd go for aluminum (no rust from road salt.) Those new cheap aluminum hybrids aren't made as well as the older cro-mo hybrids and MTBs, in my opinion.

Older, rigid MTB all the way. If you're worried about rust spray some rustoleum inside the frame tubes (there should be some drain holes - just look for them). Just my $0.02, YMMV.

I agree with this, though not certain if it is just a personal preference for steel, but I much prefer my 90s era hybrid to my wife's '07 Trek hybrid. It just feels smoother and better made.

I have a crosscut which is very similar to the criss cross. It's a nice bike.
