I'm planing a ride from Kuala Lumpur to Penang for early 2011 around Chinese New Years. I have a brother in law who is interested in the ride.

I live in the states so the plan is to fly there with my bike. The ride should take 3 - 4 days

Depending on the actual dates, I will be keen to join the ride from KL to Penang. Please consider that during Chinese New Year period the traffic can be very heavy, as folks from urban city (KL) are traveling back to home town for re-union dinners and holidays.

The coastal route that you have chosen is definitely less traffic. You may plan for over-night stop at "kampong stay", a type of local Malay village home stay to experience the local village life-style. You can check this out from the Malaysian Tourism web site.

Hi smoothisfast

Are you still up for cycling? I am doing Penang to KL this CNY. Going by train on the 31st and start on the 1st all the way to the 6th depending on the speed. Might go the other way round but it seems that the current route would have less traffic.

PM/Email me your plans.
