I'm moving all the existing components on my current bike to a new cannondale BB30 frame. My understanding is that I could use a cheap adapter to keep my existing BB and crankset. Would there be any performance benefits from getting a BB30 specific BB and crankset over the aforementioned option?

It might feel stiffer. As to a measurable performance benefit from a crank swap, not likely.

The BB30 adapters are dumb and give limited installation/reinstallations. You take out one of the main advantages of using a BB30 equipped frame, that is lighter and stiffer cranksets. The adapters are pressed into the shell - have fun if/when they start creaking. Buy a BB30 crankset if you can afford it.
