Hey all,
I'm vacationing in Flagstaff in a couple weeks and bringing the road bike. What's the best rides to hit?

You can take 89 north to Sunset Crater or if you are looking for more miles, you can ride out to Wupatki National Monument and come back up through Sunset Crater. Not sure how long you're going to be in town but there's a really good century that utilizes the same course called the Taylor House Century on July 24th http://www.absolutebikes.net/taylor/index.html Another ride would be to ride up to Snowbowl, north and west of town on US 180. Finally, if you go south on I-17 to Lake Mary Road, you can ride that as an out and back to Mormon Lake which is about 55 miles of rollers.

Thanks for the help!
I'm getting there on the 24th evening, so the century is out. The rest of the rides sound awesome, especially Snowbowl. Are there any other rides like that with a bunch of climbing? I'm coming from sea level, so probably just pedaling around will be tough. How about any group rides?

There's a Saturday morning road ride that leaves at 9:00 from the Pay N Take on Aspen. Average speed in the low 20's with sprints and such that goes out and circles Lake Mary for about 63 miles RT. Good group of people and highly suggested. you can google it for more information.

Bummer, I'm getting there mid-day on Saturday and leaving on the next Friday. I don't supposed there's anything else?

Fat Boy, not sure if you're online on your trip but as a suggestion, they re-routed the Taylor House course to another pretty sweet ride. Here's the link on MapMyRide...http://www.mapmyride.com/ride/united-states/az/flagstaff/729128015877621041.

Hope you had a good time. Judging by the pic, it looks like you did.

I had a great time. It would have been better if the air had oxygen in it, but I just went slow and easy. That shot was from most of the way up the Snowbowl climb. I went to the very top twice, including the last 1/2 mile of dirt/cinder road.

Fat Boy, how was the road/traffic going up snowbowl? I haven't driven up there in a while and have never climbed it, but would love to give it a go next time I'm out that way...is there a shoulder?

I googled it and guess what I got? Your exact post here! I am moving to Flag. Might catch up with that ride one of these days. It is getting cold, though.
