Hello from the Northeast Kingdom of Vermont. Since the TDF has been back on, I've gotten the fever again to try and break into the door of cycling. I started talking about it last summer when it was on, but after beginning my research, I was a little disheartened on the cost of bikes :twitchy:. Fast forward to this summer, again the TDF comes on, and again I'm intrigued.

Anyways, I've been on the site for the last week, doing some research, and looking at a lot of the pictures all the members have posted of their bikes, and of themselves in races, etc. There is a lot of knowledge floating around, and I'm glad to have joined, and look forward to the time I can finally get myself a bike, and join the ranks.

Welcome to BF.
You'd better hurry and get a bike. The TdF ends in less than two weeks.
Are you looking for a road bike for exercise and fitness or are you planning on racing? Most people start with the fitness/exercise thing and then decide they really enjoy riding and decide to break into racing on the weekends.

Well, I wouldn't mind doing a little racing, or group rides on the side after I got a little more fit. I'm looking at beginner bikes, and based on my budget, bikesdirect is more than likely where I'll end up purchasing one, despite some of the negative reviews I keep seeing. I feel a place like that is great for bikers on a budget, and for beginners looking to get a little more bike for their money. And there isn't too many LBS around this corner of Vermont. A couple, but I wasn't impressed by one of them.
Not sure if I'll be able to swing it this year, but my goal is to at least have one so I'm ready to go by next spring.
