A nighttime century in Sacramento, it sounds crazy, no?

But it is going on and it only costs $10! I think I will be tied up that weekend (July 24), but I thought some of you might be up for it...

We did it a few years ago on our tandem. For me it was kind of surreal - as the stoker. Long, flat roads and I couldn't tell that we were actually moving. It was a neat experience though.

It's the Midnight Century on the 24Th of this month, they need to know in advance who's riding so they have enough food.

Anyone going to this? I will be there!

I was going too, but i have family coming to town.

This sounds like a really neat idea, it's hot as hell during the day right now, and night temps are commonly in the 60's and even 70's around this time. I need to see where this is going to happen.

I hope the organizers check their route against where the tomato haulers are running that night. Since MorningStar controls almost all of the tomato harvest it should be fairly simple to arrange for routes that don't overlap for a few hours. Those drivers are working 16 hour shifts and are paid by the load, so they are not generally inclined to wait for anyone. If the dispatchers at least know about the ride they can often get the drivers to behave. (The drivers' quality of life is determined by the dispatchers.)

Amazing century, especially for the size. Very little traffic on the roads, amazing rest stop, and really fun people.

Anyone know who/if a midnight century is happening in the Sacramento/Davis area?

After absolutely cooking on a morning (arguably to beat the heat) MTB ride yesterday, I think I'm done going outside while the sun is out. I've got a dynamo powered light now, so think I'll make my own adventure tonight, but a group ride would be fun as well.

Hmm... I want to go again, but unsure of work =[.

The ride was last Saturday, and seemed to get pretty good attendance.

I hung on to a large (but greatly shrunk) paceline for the first 35 miles (24.5mph avg). The rest stop around mile 58 was nice with lots to eat, and very busy with a lot of riders (I assume they were stopping before continuing to the turn around point). My remaining ~40mi were mostly solo and into a headwind which was a drag (no pun intended). At some point I got passed by a tandem and single, and held on until they pulled off at the Knights Landing rest stop.

I did have a slight pucker factor moment with a tomato truck a little before Woodland on the way back. I guess he thought he was going to pass and turn in front of me with only a couple hundred feet to go, and locked up all his wheels while I was parallel to his cab. He laid on his horn and all I could do was give him a one finger salute. Thankfully other than that all of the miles in the dark were uneventful.

I'll definitely watch for next years ride.
