Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

New Paltz to Lake Minnewaska today on my mountain bike. thats 1300 feet of climb over 10 miles, or 1000 feet over 4-5 miles. First ride since my sidewall blew out 3 weeks ago. WOOO!!!!! Can't wait for a road bike :)

Congrats!!
When you're ready to hit the wall, come on over to Western NY. Bopple Hill rises 750 ft in 0.8 miles. 22% grade in places.

Been on one of those things before up in the catskills, 700ft with a .9 mile hill. That was the worst hill of my life...can't wait to do it again :)

btw why is steepness measured in % rather than degrees? Is % measured as % of vertical?

% grade is the rise in feet over 100 feet. so 10 feet in one hundred is 10% rise.

South of Rochester ... Finger Lakes. The hill I mentioned is part of this ride (http://www.highlandercycletour.com/highlander.htm) that I did last Saturday. There are two other hills just like it on the route. The one at mile 65 is the real ball buster. I'm a decent cycling and I barely made it up in a 30x23.

Very cool. I went to school up in Ithaca and worked for a while after too. Great riding country up there.
