Hi. We're visiting for a few days and would like to ride some of the L&C trail. Anyone have suggestions or route sheets? Thanks in advance!

I think you might mean the Katy Trail. There is tons of information on the web. It is an excellent place to ride. If you are visiting you must go there.

You can download the GPS coordinates from that site for free, but they are pretty hard to use - they don't separate the POIs from the route points. But it will give you enough of an idea to figure out which roads to use. You can import the points into Google Earth if you don't have a mapping application or GPS. It's been too long since I tried to do that to give you any decent directions, though.

There's a couple of ways of doing the trail. An out and back from St. Charles to Sedalia on the Katy would probably be the easiest. The Bike Katy Trail website (http://www.bikekatytrail.com/default.asp) is extremely helpful with distances and finding places to stay. I'd suggest Lococo House in St. Charles (very nice people) and the Mumbrauer Gasthaus in Hermann (Betty is a hoot!).
For a really cool day trip, start in Alton, IL and ride the trail all the way to the Gateway Arch. The ride across Chain of Rocks Bridge is spectacular.

Another very nice day ride is to start in Alton, IL riverfront park, ride the Great River Road north along the River to Grafton, IL. If you want more miles and nice riding, go through Grafton to the Brussels Ferry, take the ferry across the Illinois River and ride the country roads to Brussels. If you're lucky the church in Brussels will be having a dinner for the public, if they are stop and eat well. The road from Alton to Grafton is beautiful and has a nice shoulder.
Side note, St Charles County is proposing a ban on cycling similar to Black Hawk, CO. Many are going around that area in protest, taking lodging business to Alton might be a help.
