Mountain Biking - 1st bike. mongoose iboc comp sx

I've got my 1st mtn bike I got it off craigs list its a mongoose iboc comp sx I paid $100 for it first off was that a good deal? The only problem with it is I need new tires and he said springs are bad so could someone help me? What tires should I get and springs?

Also, you won't get much in the ways of help with that little information. It's like going to a car forum & saying "I have a Honda Civic with bad springs & tires. What do I need?" There are lots of different years of Civics with different parts. The car could have been heavily modified. All these things factor into what would need to be done.

So how about this. What year is the bike? What kind of fork is on the bike? How big are the current tires, & what's the max clearance on the fork & frame for tires? While we can help guide you in the right direction, you should really go to a local bike shop & have them help you. I don't even know if a Mongoose Iboc Comp SX is worth fixing to that degree, because I have no idea what that bike is. A picture would be helpful.

And, what kind of terrain/surface do you plan to ride on. That will make a difference in the choice of tires.

Thanks for the response but I really don't know anything more than what I told you ill take your advise and take it to a bike shop. I did figure out that my tires are 26"-1.95" and I wanna ride trails in woods and stuff like that

It's old ('94, '95 or '96), so it was certainly not a bargain - - but if you like it and it fits your needs, enjoy.

I had one of those, is it turquoise with black specks on it? Mine had good components on it, I don't remember what level Shimano, a high dollar bike in it's day.

$100 was a steele my friend..came out in the mid 90's..were top of the line mountain bikes back in the day..and trust me in this day...google it..mongoose iboc would range from $800- and upwards of $2700 for certain bikes in 95-96..still hv mine..rides like a dream! In 2012..however, i ride brooklyn, so i removed the off road tires, and replaced them with kevlar tires, faster, and no flats..shops keep these tires hiddin, hence..no flats, no money for fixing flats, ask for them..you have a true classic..ride easy, and proud my friend..

Google tells me its a dece bike for its age. For 100buz maybe not the bargain u were looking for. Especially if it requires maintenence you can't do yourself. Bringing your bike to a bike shop may turn up results that you're not pleased withm(eg; this is old, this is xx$ amount to fix and could be what you initally paid). I hope this turns out ok for you but I hope you also learned a lesson in buying used, or buying bikes in general. I've def had a lot of lessons to learn myself, but the answers always begin with some research or reading.

OK good deal if it's a 1996, I'm guessing Judy XC parts can be found somewhere. Less of a deal if 95 or 94, heavier bike with lesser forks.

If more parts besides fork internals and tires are wasted then not so much of a deal.

What tires? I'd go for something cheap.

Don't worry guys...I'm guessing he got everything sorted out about 2 years ago.

So first I want to thank everyone for there responses and just let y'all know that that bike was well worth the $100 I paid it didn't have no mechanical problems and I only upgraded parts and it treated me great on the trails I have not upgraded to a karate monkey if you can call that upgrading that mongoose was a great bike @lesterofpuppets I was looking a bikepedia at the mongoose iboc comp sx from 94 to 96 and the only year with my bike color was 96 (polished) so I assumed it was a 96
