View Full Version : Time for a few new jerseys

I've looked at all the usual websites and even several new ones and can't find any "new or exciting" jerseys. I don't want a pro team jersey (like SaxoBank or Cervelo) or any team jersey since I'm not on any team. I don't want a plain jersey (solid color or maybe two colors). I'm not built like a European rider. I'm a 65 year old American rider. I don't want to pay $250+ either, although the wife said to bite the bullet and get some decent jerseys. I guess that means up to $125 each, maybe $150 each.
Got any suggestions? Thanks.

Whoa! $125-150 for a jersey? You can get great new jerseys for $60-75, retail. Look in your area for a used bike apparel and parts place. They are often run by a charity of some sort. I have bought many (about 10) jerseys at a place in San Rafael CA and never paid more than $20 (and as little as $2) for one. (Vests, jackets, even bike shoes, too. I got a pair of brand new $260 Specialilzed shoes for $100) They are clean and gently used. Performance and Nashbar have sales. I saw some in a catalog for about $40. Nashbar's "returned goods" always has jerseys for cheap, but it's just luck if you find one you like in your size. Try Velowear.com for some interesting stuff. Their "Jersey of the Month" is always interesting. I'll bet other 50+ers will chime in with all sorts of ideas.

I love jerseys. I have 32 now.

Start entering a few "Special" well organised rides. I've always wanted a "Triple Bypass" jersey but you can only get them if you enter.

check for fun rides in your area. Usually $100. entry fee and a decent jersey to boot. I've never seen anything over $90. and mainly stay around $50. Try the clearance section at REI Outlet.

I'm glad you got me looking-here is one that I just had to pick up. And if you haven't had a Black Butte-indulge yourself.

Nothing yet. :(
I look at velowear.com all the time. I get there weekly emails too.
I go to REI every other week just to browse. We have 4 REI stores here. Also look at the outlet section online.
Triple Bypass might be good. Where can I get one? Primalwear.com only has wind vests, jackets and l/s. I want s/s. I 'm not even sure I own a l/s jersey. Arm warmers and/or a jacket with s/s jersey do just fine in the cooler months.

Regarding the $125+ stuff - I was thinking about something like this.

They're just not cut for older American riders -- unless you're related to Andy Schleck.

First of all, if you don't have a 50+ jersey yet, get off my lawn!

The bulk of my jersey collection has come from centuries I've ridden. I like to get the souvenir jerseys. I've also got a couple I just happened to see in a bike shop - they spoke to me!

You can always find a wide assortment of jerseys on Ebay. Some of them may speak to you.

50+ jersey?? Dnvr and I are still waiting for the 65+ jersey. :thumb:
I guess I ride in the wrong centuries and metrics. All they ever offer is a t-shirt. :o

I look for jerseys from obscure amateur teams on eBay, although I did splurge on a new EWR jersey this spring:

Some nice retro-looking stuff on Probikekit.co.uk.

I've never considered a European site. You know, dollars -- pounds.
These two sites have a few possibilities. Thanks.

Six Gap / Three Gap usually has a good jersey.

I'm think hard about one of these:

I like it except it only has a 3/4 length zipper. I try not to buy any jerseys except those with full length zippers. An exception was a Vanderbilt University Jersey I got from Sunrise Cyclery.

Ron,
There are a couple of interesting jerseys here. And a nice company run by real humans who answer the phone. The Colorado flag jersey is on my list.

I've been looking for a Georgia cycling jersey. Seems a lot of sites have CO, CA, OR, AZ, AK, TX, etc but no Georgia or Southeast or someplace where I actually live and ride.
And before anyone suggests one of these --- NO, NO, NO!!!!

I had a connection with Giordana but last month that dried up - luckily I got a second pair of bib-knickers just under the wire.
Good luck shopping - there are lots of options for this stuff however my budget for a Jersey is much less than yours.
