Mountain Biking - Something fell out of my front derailleur

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
Just bought a new MTB which apparently needs some adjustment to the derailleurs. While trying to set the front derailleur height, a tiny metal rod fell out of it. It's about 1mm thick and 1½cm long, no threading or anything. The derailleur is an SRAM 3.0. The bike was upside down when the rod fell out. What is this rod and where does it go?
Thankful for help!
Here's a picture of the rod next to a lighter for size comparison:

I've never used a SRAM FD. Can you take a picture of that too?
