In the two years I've been riding I've only rode to long beach once. Can't really remember the exact route I took but I hated it to be honest. Way too much traffic, but more importantly I went through some rather shady areas. I normally head up to Malibu and the Santa Monica mountains for riding.

I'm working on a project over at school this summer and figured I could save quite a bit of gas and get in a decent workout by taking the bike.

I live roughly near Wilson Park in Torrance. Does anyone have any recommendations on routes out to LB? I think the time I went out there I took mostly PCH, then jumped onto some side streets. How about taking Anaheim St.? I've been looking at google streetview and Anaheim St. East of the 710 looks like it's got plenty of room and shoulder space. But once you pass the 710 it looks like things get a bit tighter with cars usually parked on the side and a bit more traffic.

This is what I'm thinking:

Feel free to make any changes that you think would be better routes to take.

Thanks!

I think that is your easiest route unless you take Sepulveda/Willow to the LART for 1.5 miles and off at Anaheim. I ride Anaheim all of the time and have no problem. Is it not the widest street but for the most part the drivers are not speed demons and seem to keep to the limit.

you can take sepulveda/willow, PCH, or anaheim to get over the LB. anaheim has the slowest car traffic but the surface is pretty bad and once you get into LB the street becomes pretty tight. PCH and Willow are wider and have better road surfaces but cars move faster and you have to get over Signal Hill to get to CSULB.

I think I'm going to take my Anaheim St. route out and then take Willow and Sepulveda back. I don't think I need to cut through Signal Hill at all...I can just head up Palo Verde up to Willow. Which will take me all the way to Sepulveda Blvd. But a small detour through Signal Hill in the afternoon overlooking the city would be nice.

Thanks everyone!

I don't like PCH going over that way. I have taken Sepulveda which turns into Willow. It's rough, and industrial but less traffic and some area to ride on.
PCH is more like a freeway going over there.
All streets in Long Beach are dangerous.

Your return route will take you right through Signal Hill.
