have the bar-end shifter adapter from jagwire been used by someone here ?

if they have been, do they accept downtube shifter "wings" ?

if neither of these first 2 can be answered, does anyone have inexpensive bar-end shifter or even just the shifter to handle bar adapter part ?

I have never used the jagwire barcons but as far as i know they wont work with downtube shifters; they need to be paired with bar end shifters. You can get the bar end shifter pods from shimano or rivendell which do accept downtube shifters but they are somewhat pricey. I was pondering the same thing a few weeks back for my recent build and finally decided upon shimano 8spd bar end shifter from jensonusa (http://www.jensonusa.com/store/product/SL407A09-Shimano+Sl-Bs50-8+Speed+Bar+End+Shifters.aspx?sc=FRGL). You can possibly find these and the bar end pods on ebay for a bit cheaper.
