Singlespeed & Fixed Gear - the problems I've run into so far

Alright so it's been 3 days since I got my windsor hour and I've put on about 20 miles. Just like TT said I had problems with the lockring. I haven't gone out and bought a lock ring tool yet, but it's first on my list of things to buy. Anyway, I was practicing skidding on the bike when suddenly the bike's cranks felt like they were spinning independently from the rear wheel. This happened for like a split second and usually occurred after I had attempted a skid and while i was first pedaling to start moving again. After this happened twice i took a look at the rear hub and noticed that the lock ring was loose. I used the end of an allen key to push it tight, but I didn't end up putting it too tight for fear of stripping it.

My question is whether or not the lock ring being loose and the crank problem are directly related. And of course what steps should I take to fix it.

yes directly related. you need to have your lockring and cog tightened. hopefully your hub isn't damaged.

get a chainwhip and a lockring tool. tighten down your cog with the chainwhip. then tighten down the lockring with the lockring tool. putting pressure on the cranks when you have a loose cog/lockring will result in slip (which it seems like you're experiencing), or worse, stripped threads.

Just take it to your local LBS and have them do it. I cant imagine them charging over 20$ if at all for a job like that. You could have stripped it already. More likely is that it is loose but look to see if there are any small metal shards or cross threading going on before you try riding it again.

Hub may be trashed, bring it to someone who knows what they are doing and have them inspect it.

Excellent advices. Out of the box, any internet bike needs every nut and bolt tightened. The first thing is to determine whether the wheels are trued, that's a LBS task. Wheel truing makes a world of difference. Do what you can do for build, adjust, ride & readjust. Things like seat height, caliper brake adjustments handle bar and brake lever tightening. The tuning that requires special tools. the LBS will do for a reasonable labor charge. Internet bikes were put together tight enough to keep it from rattling around or losing a part here and there should the box get damaged in transit and something fall out of it like a bag of nuts and bolts.

Man... Why did you even ride your bike when it wasnt properly set up? I even waited 2 weeks for some of the tools to arrive when I had the full bike right infront of me.
Patience if virtue. Lets hope you didn't strip your hub.... Go get it checked out at your LBS. I doubt they'll charge more than $5 to tighten your cog/lockring. Its usually a free thing, well for my LBS.
