I remember reading a humourous novel many years ago where the British Prime Minister was secretly replaced by a chimpanzee they'd taught to speak. No-one noticed, and indeed the chimp ended up doing a better job, and was more popular than the human he'd replaced.
It doesn't seem so funny now.
