Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Hello, I have been lurking this forum for several days after my intrest had been peaked about road biking. I needed a new form of excersize since running kills my back, and with my girlfriend just getting her Mercier road bike there couldnt have been a better time. After searching Craigslist I found something well within my meager budget that an avg 18 year old has and it ended up being a Windsor Carrera Sport that is just a tiny bit big for me for the sum of $25. From what I read online about them it seemed like a good deal, and a better choice then trying to put a 1974 Schwinn Contential together. Upon picking it up I also got an intresting vintage schwin womens bike thrown in for free, so I think I could say I got a great deal.

It had been sitting for 15 years but was in suprisiongly good shape and after new tires, tubes, and a swap of the front rim from the schwin womens bike I took it for its first ride. It was a small one by a riders standers (3 or 4 miles) but I had a lot of fun and will keep an eye out for more trails.

I hope to get plenty of advice from this forum, and help on how to slowly get this bike all shiny and properly tuned up without using a bike shop.

My bike, I have since replaced the rotted old rear tire and today plan on trying to clean up the frame and later the chain, cranks, sprockets etc. I went on two little five miles rides and yesterday did a fun 10 miles one with my girlfriend on her Mercier and an old pal of mine who rides fixed gear. It rode great and I think I got a rather good deal with it. I was thinking of painting it orange, but I have come to like it the way it is because it reminds me of a black widow being all black with only two small red stripes, thus I called it the black widow.

The friend who rides fixed told me how perfect of a frame it would be to turn to a fixed gear, but I just cant bring myself to ever ride one of those.

I have lurked the C&V section here and its very informative so I bet I'll drop by there for some questions about how to reassemble this thing when I strip it down to give it a thorough cleaning.
