looking at gps watches. I want one for swimming, cycling and running. I need splits/laps, distance and speed.

Posting from my mobile, so apologies for not searching thoroughly before posting.

Garmin 310XT w/HRM. I own one and I love it. I haven't had a chance to swim with it, but it is very accurate. It is cool to look at my bike computer then at the watch and see the speeds match.

A friend let me wear his 310xt this past weekend during a race and I loved it. I had been researching GPS watches for a week prior, and I had narrowed my search down to the 310xt and the 305 (both Garmin Forerunners by the way).

I do tri's, but I don't swim a whole heck of a lot and do duathlons mostly. I read some good comparisons between the 305 and the 310xt (the reviews HERE (http://www.dcrainmaker.com/2009/09/garmin-forerunner-310xt-in-depth-review.html) helped the most) and after boiling it all down I opted for the 305. Though the 310xt (which replaces the 305) had some good features the 305 does not, most notably the vibration alerts and better waterproofing, I felt that the 305 was a much better bargain at a much lower price and suited my needs quite well.

There are other options out there, such as the 110 and the 405cx, but those seem to be more geared towards runners and not multi-sport folks. The analogy I make in regards to these is that of the comparison between desktop and laptop computers... You get less functionality in a smaller, prettier package and at a higher price. Me, I'd rather have the huge computer-looking think on my wrist and get more/better functionality than a pretty GPS watch that looks like a watch.

That's just my $0.02.
