Alt Bike Culture - ideas from the collective please...

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

hi all, i have a folding bike, running two 16" wheels.
what can i do with it ?
folding not essential, might go for a mini recumbent, as i've built two bents anyway, but maybe something different !
any ideas would be welcome, cheers in advance !

It has been done I bet; but how about a small recumbent tall bike? I had 2 of those "Pixie" bikes welded together and bolted to a mountain bike making a trike, but that took many materials and took too long.

sometimes, depending on where it folded, they can sometimes be turned into swing bikes really easily. where is the pivot for the fold? close to the seat post by chance?

the seat post pivot is in the vertical plane, the mid-top pivot is horizontal !
but i could just hack it and weld it anyway !
might be an idea, cheers !
You could make it a super long chopper-style bike by separating the frame at the hinge and adding a steel beam.

I just hope we remain a Collective and don't ever become a Proletariat or a Borg.

you could ride it around town, maybe to the coffeeshop, and get get a cool refreshing ice coffee, sit outside and read a book or watch the world go by and enjoy where you are. you could put a chain between the two parts and have a weird looking set of nunchucks! you could put it in two separate parts, collage it with cool pictures from magazines and books about cycling, and make a two piece art thing that shows the history of the bicycle and sell it for $5,000.
(FWIW, my daughter collaged her bike with pics from magazines and did the history of rock and roll, and it was awesome. i wanted to sell her bike as art, she wouldn't let me, she just rides it around. that is where i got that idea from.)

I suggest ride the bike as-is to a bus stop, fold it up. wait for the bus. Take the bike on board the bus and go to some distant location. Explore another town, fold it up and take it home on the bus again.

I just take my cruiser and ride to the next town. Not into busses unless they are 1957 GMC based.

Hhhmmm, how 'bout a picture of the folding bike? Perhaps that could be inspirational . . . or, maybe I could elaborate on the bus idea . . . maybe you could fold it up, take it on a plane to Jamaica, ride it around down there for awhile, visit local coffee shops getting buzzed on the incredible Jamaican Blue Mountain coffee, meet a rasta man that will introduce you to some hot Jamaican gal, start importing coffee back to your home country for huge profits, build a beautiful house on the slopes of one of the Blue Mountains, and ride your folding bike to the coffee fields or the beach every day, open a bicycle shop selling folding bikes to the locals, there houses are VERY small there so a bike that folds would take up alot less space, rent bikes to the tourists, there are thousands of them!!! Again, the folding bike would fit in there room, no visiting the bike shop/rental every day. Yes my friend, you and your folding bike fly to Jamaica, as fast as you can, an amazing future awaits . . .

Glue bamboo all over it (bamboo canopy optional), ride it around; and just wait for the photographers.

ok......some good ideas guys !
to reply to a few, i live on an island 9x5 miles, so cant go too far, a bus ride is hardly worth the effort, lol !
photographers, i'm heavily tattooed, have two tall bikes, and two recumbents, so no stranger to being stared at !
was thinking a nice razor sharp seat and some drop handle bars...?
or i like the bamboo idea, maybe some fake fur....?
pic of bike, yeah, i'll get something sorted !

I had a Spalding full suspension folding bike that I modified quite a bit. First I replaced the suspension fork with a BMX fork, then I locked out the rear suspension by replacing the spring with a section of downtube from another bike:

Then I made it a retro-direct drive:
