Whenever my left crank makes bout a half rotation, there is like a creaky noise. This only happens when I'm riding pretty slow or cruising. But, when I mash or ride fast, you can barely hear anything at all.

Anyone know wassup?

Thanks.

Pedals or bottom bracket threads need grease?
Actually, its weird that it doesnt happen when you are "mashing".

Yeah, I'm gonna try and spray some grease into the crank arms/bb. If that doesn't work guess I'll bring it to my LBS.

Ah..spray? What grease are you using?

Yeah... if your grease is sprayable, its probably not grease!
Remember, WD-40 is ANTI-GREASE!

Lol woops, I read the can of the WD-40 and it says " stop squeaks".

What grease do I need, and does it require me taking my bike apart? ( don't got the tools =[ )

Wow.

Yes, you need grease. Something like "heavy duty wheel bearing grease", you can find it at the hardware store.

Yes, you'll probably need to overhaul your bottom bracket if you've been spraying WD-40 in there.

You can probably have it done at a shop for pretty cheap.

you should only use a WD-40 on a bike when you want to take off some ourys. Get it checked out by your LBS, they'll overhaul it and put some normal grease on it. Maybe your squeak will disappear then.

does it only happen when you are sitting?

I had that happen when mashing. I greased my brand new pedals and it went away. I use Bel Ray waterproof grease.

This.

Saddle/seatpost creaks can happen when soft pedaling and have a rhythm that sounds like a BB/crankset creak. I'm still trying to stop the one on my road bike and for a week I thought it was drivetrain noise.

Yeah. Thats it. The creak only happens when I soft pedal/cruise. But when I mash its barely noticeable.

But, I'll still get it checked out.

Yellowbeard - Put a drop or two of any light oil on your saddle rails.

Already done. In the past I've cured it temporarily by cleaning out the seatpost clamp, the saddle clamp and by greasing the rails, but it would come back in two weeks (on race night, no less) or in the rain. Gave the whole thing a cleaning yesterday with mineral spirits and a toothbrush, covered everything with marine grease and dripped oil into the ends of the saddle rails while tightening the screws slightly. Also tore my whole steering column apart to get rid of two different clicks in that area. Sweet silence, which is more than I could say for some of the bikes racing beside me last night.

I want to move into your locality. My LBSes aren't aware of this philosophy.

PS, my bad. I didn't read the prior post. I get it now. I may not be steady yet but ...
