Northern California - Where Did They Go?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I always tell people that the great thing about riding in the Bay Area is that there's always somebody faster, and somebody slower; somebody skinnier, and somebody fatter; somebody younger, and somebody older. Makes you feel good, but keeps you humble.
The last two weeks, all I'm seeing is faster, skinnier, younger folks. I used to pass a fair number of other cyclists, but not this month!
Maybe it's me. Maybe I've become everyone else's slower, fatter, older guy? ;)

It seems like everyone gets faster this time of year, maybe they are peaking in training?

Definately faster this time of the year. It taken us this long to burn off the turkey from last Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays. Rest your fears because the Autum chill will slow them down, then comes the holiday eating binge........

GeneJockey! Where have you been?
Everyone does seem faster. They must be getting more riding hours or something.

Same old place, just not riding or posting as much. Life got weird, but then it got back to normal. Or weird became the new normal... :D
I'll tell you, though - the legs don't take kindly to long layoffs.

High unemployment rate would seem to do the trick.

You are just riding in the wrong place. Im extremely slow since Id been off the bike for a year. Been back to riding 10 days now. The nice thing is I can see and feel the improvement daily. I still pass plenty of folks on flat roads, but when it turns up at al my legs think it nap time.
Welcome back Sean, it's been quite a while.

Geez, what happened to cause you to not ride? You were going great guns training, last I heard from you.

BigSean AND SesameCrunch? What do we need another Tandem Rally to get everyone out of lurk mode?

Hip and back injuries kept me off the bike. Not sure how it happened. Ill be doing the Spectrum ride tomorrow, well for a few minutes anyway. LOL

I figured out why I only saw faster people the last two weeks. I was starting too late. This Sunday I headed out at 10, and there they were - plenty of people slower than I am.
All is right with the world again.

Crap. I thought i was hot stuff.. looks like I can get my humility back just by getting my lazy back-end out the door earlier.
