Northern California - Grizzly Century

Is anyone planning to ride the Grizzly Century on 10/2?
Anyone in the East Bay interested in any training rides for this?

I did this a couple of years ago - great ride, great support, spectacular scenery. Although there's a lot of climbing, none of it was real steep so it was probably the easiest century with 10k of climbing I've done. Just be prepared for anything weather-wise - we had snow and slush on the road the year I did it, but it could also be hot. Unfortunately, it's on a bad weekend for me this year. Have a great ride!

The Grizzly is a very nice one.
Fantastic support and food and very reasonable price.
I have ridden it twice, the first in super weather, the second in cooler conditions but without the snow Jonathan experienced.

I did this once, in 2006. Nice support, nice scenery, a lot of climbing. You can see the Ritter Range and Mammoth Mountain, clear on the other side of the Sierra.

In 2006, it was 25 degrees when I started out in the morning. :)

They usually offer pretty snappy jerseys, too!

The year I did was 2007 and I'd only been riding for about 9 months when I did it, so it's not a super hard ride (unless you decided to go fast enough to make it super hard!). They actually changed the route because the last big long descent had iced up. We ended up doing a long out and back, and it was approaching the lunch stop that there was some slush and snow still on the road. Not enough to be dangerous - if you were paying attention you could ride around the patches. But it was cold all day long.

When I read "it's not super hard" I was wondering what ride you did, then I saw you didn't climb the Grizz. The ride has a little over 10,000' for the day and the Grizz is a good climb. I've done the, but not for the last few years. The support is outstanding and what can I say about the scenery, spectacular.

Naw, I like the High Sierra Fall Century (http://www.fallcentury.org/) out of Mammoth Lakes better, so I think I'm going to do that one instead. I know they're a month apart, but the Grizzly is too late in the season for a good chance at warmish weather on ride day - I don't like being cold when I'm sweating. :)

Besides, between the two, the scenery on the east side is in a whole different league - plus I'll have a free condo to crash in.

THe revised route still had over 10k of climbing, but everyone who had done the regular route preferred that. No one was complaining that we were shortchanged on the climbing, though!

I've already signed up months ago and I'm going with some guys from work. My plan is to do the century but in case weather is bad, I might do the bail-out option. I missed it last year but not this year!

We're still going to this and just ckecked the weather. Low in the mid 50's with a high of 87 on the day of the ride. We're staying in Oakhurst and plan on a pre-ride around Bass Lake on Friday.
