Hello all. Just got into the game:)
Always wanted a road bike since watching Breaking away as a young kid. Had a Schwinn Varsity as a kid and teenager. Have not been on a bike since I was 17 or so. 23 years...dam time goes quick. Recently (past two or three years) Have been totally into the TDF on TV. So this year with a budget of $500 dollars and lots of determination I took the plunge.
Got a Windsor Wellinton 2.0 from BD. Water bottle and cage, Air Pump, Repair kit, Seat purse, helmet, compact 10 in 1 tool and bike computer from local big box stores. All for under $500. Times are tight so a cheapo bike with Shimano parts is the route I took. I figure get the engine tuned before I mate it to a killer chassis.
I am 40 years old and in decent shape. 175# 5'9". Did two rides this weekend. Both about 14 miles and averaged 23 kph on the first ride and 25kph on the second. Relatively flat. Same road 7 miles oneway then 7 miles back the other way on the same road for 14 miles total. Was relatively easy and will double the ride next week to 28 miles. Maybe thinking of getting into Triathalons. I did a 5K run before each bike ride, with maybe an hour rest in between.
Look forward to posting and looking for buddy riders in the area. Morris County NJ.
