Hello all, I just got my old Centurion back from my brother in law so that I could get back into cycling. He had it fixed up after it sat for years by his wood pile in the mountains only to let it sit around again for another year and a half. I last rode when I was 15, and from 12 to 15 I used to ride about 10 to 25 miles a day. Didn't know much about cycling, just loved to ride and did it as much as I could. I used to ride in charity rides all the time in my neighborhoods. Cars and a love of hot rods took me away from my bike, but I have discovered that I yearn to ride again.
I took the bike to Bicycle John's in Burbank to get it tuned up, and re-tired. I'm finding now that there is a lot more to cycling than just riding, and I am glad to have found this forum. I look forward to interacting and hopefully riding with some of you. I live in the vicinity of the L.A. Equestrian Center and Griffith Park. I will be building up mileage slowly as I am a recovering cig smoker :) !

Welcome to the forums.

My father-in-law passed away recently and was burried at Forest Lawn. I noticed lots of cyclists riding past every time we went there. My wife said that I should put my bike in the truck the next time we visit and go for a ride. I just might take her up on that. :)

Welcome back reflexr! I used to ride my Stingray 5 speed to a girlfriend's house when I was 12 or 13. Her house was 15 miles from mine and there were a lot of hills to climb. Like you I got away from cycling for many years, it wasn't until I reached 42 that I got back into it seriously...RAGBRAI was the spark. Cycling is a major part of my life now.

Welcome back. It won't take long before you are back "up to speed" so to speak. This is a great forum. Lots of good stuff and people here.

welcome back from another guy working on getting back into it.

If your looking for a little social interaction with the cycling you might
look into the outdoors club. www.outdoorsclub.org, They are
mostly in LA and Orange country. I did allot of cycling
with them, the longest being 65 miles. There tends to be different groups
for different levels of skill and ambition. Its a great group and a great way
to stay motivated. Good luck

Yeah, shortly after this post, my bike was stolen, 6 years(!) later I picked up an old Raleigh Reliant, fixed it up, started to ride, for two whole days!, only to have it stolen! I am buying a GT, GTR SRS3, my first non steel bike ever. It will be staying in my bedroom, while I am not riding it. It will not get stolen!
