Bicycle Mechanics - OBLONG seatpost stem (slipping)
Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
I have an old 10 sp. and the seat post constantly slips while riding because where the post goes into the frame it is bent out of round.
Any suggestions on how to fix this?...thanks
It sounds like the wrong size seatpost was inserted into the frame. The diameter is too small, which is why the insertion tube is not round.

may be extensive work , have to make the seattube round again first, steel plug with a tapered point on the end which ends in an inside diameter like the tube was in the first place , fix will involve hammering a bit , probably,
and machine shop to make a solid steel round thing
labor likely to exceed value of bike , but it will be serviceable , one hopes.
Community college have a machine shop?
Thanks for help guys. I was hoping there was a common fix but can see it's pretty much a parts bike now.
Update on slipping post. I was able to fix it with J.B. Weld, the post isn't adjustable now but at least I can ride it.
