We just got a weehoo I go and are rocking the suburbs like madmen.

Problem is - I despise the seat post clamp.

1. It's messing up my polished Thompson aluminum seat post. But let's ignore that for now.

2. It is a plastic-on-metal surface contact. Not great in the long term.

3. The full weight of the assembly rests on the seat post collar. This creates some mad squeaking which resonates through the frame.

Assuming I can find, or have machined, the right sized tube to create a metal bushing-like assembly out of the collar-clamp-seat post interface, what can I put between this clamp and the seat post collar? First thing that comes to mind is a circular bearing assembly, or two Teflon donuts.

I can post detailed photos.

Thoughts?

I hear ya on the seat post. I have a classic Syncro seatpost that I am having sort of the same issue with.

Three options that I can think of (from most expensive to least):

1) Get a Burley Piccolo, it uses a rack attachment instead of the seatpost. The Piccolo rides better than any other TAB I have ridden with or seen.
2) Get a sacrificial seatpost. Save the Thompson for post TAB riding.
3) Instead of having a bushing or gasket machined, make your own from an old inner tube.

#1 may not be expensive as it sounds. You should be able to get good money on resale of the Piccolo.

Piccolo. The Igo is the shiz. My four year old loves it. He can fall asleep if he wants to. Only solution for longer rides.

I'm thinking that the piece I need is a thrust bearing - for between the clamp and the seatpost collar.
