Foo - WARNING! It's hot out and the kids are in the pool.

I dropped the kids off at the pool earlier today. :p
Seriously now, did you know that the average public pool has up to 3lb of fecal matter in it? My wife is a public health nurse. I get all the fun stats.
Our little one will be starting a mom-tot class next month.

If that's the case, I'm going to dump an extra 50 lbs of chlorine in the pool before I get in it myself.
If it eats the bathing suit off....so be it!
If that is a fact, then why is 'average public pool' not printed on my undies?!

That's funny you posted this thread Siu, I just renewed my Pool Manager of Operations certificate today (got a 100 of course!). Part of my job is to inspect the semi-public pools/spas in apartments, health clubs and adult entertainment centers. It's a dirty job but someone has to do it. A small 5 hp pool pump can generate a force of 500-600 lbs of force. If a child gets sucked down to the drain, very few people (except maybe Chipcom) would be able to get her out. An emergency shut off valve has to be in the pool area. Pools here in Texas have to have 2 main drains so if something gets stuck down there, the other drain will break the suction. If it's an old pool with just one drain then a safety valve with a stigle switch mus be installed. This senses any blockage to the drain and sends an electrical signal to the pump to shut off. After the things I have seen in pools, I will never get in one again!
Now, back to your regularly scheduled program.
Ernest
PS: The instructor of the pool class offered me a position on the staff as an instructor for the spanish classes. I would help certify all pool techs and pool managers in the city of Dallas. I may take him up on it! I need to see if my old manager can give me a reason to stay where I'm at.

This is why I no longer ever step foot in a public pool... :(
I am bummed... when I first moved into my complex, it was adults only. The law changed and now there are tons of kids. The pool used to be a nice serene retreat now its just a health hazard. Ain't enough chlorine in the world...:notamused:
Just another nice tidbit... for 6 long summers, I worked in a public swimming pool as a lifeguard. You can imagine what was found in the pool... I prayed and hoped I never had to rescue anyone!!!!
It's only an Oh'Henry bar some kid lost.

Only if the drain on your desk does not have a safety valve of some sort. Also the average french class desk and over 3 lb. of brie in it.
