An American won a stage in the Vuelta yesterday.
An American is leading the race.
Neither is named Lance.
Get it?
Dorks!
They totally don't care. Seriously!
I've been following the Vuelta every day. I belong to another forum, and we've been spending a lot of time talking about the Vuelta. I don't notice any less excitement for the Vuelta than for the Tour de France. If anything, there seems to be more excitement sometimes! But I guess if it's not Lance, OLN could care less. :(
I called my cable company and asked them to cancel my OLN, and they said they couldn't just eliminate one channel. When I told Comcast what OLN thought of the Vuelta and that they'd rather have bullfighting over the Vuelta, the guy on the phone just laughed at how idiotic OLN was. He promised he'd pass on my concerns to his supervisors so they could know what OLN was up to. I think that's one of the best things we could do- contact your service provider and contact OLN with your concerns and complaints.

Why are we blaming this all on OLN? OLN and any other network is in buisness to make money so they are going to (and have to) play shows that get viewership and bring in advertising dollars. Obviously the advertising isn't there and the 10 or 20 thousand people that signed the Vuelta petition is a far cry from what would be needed to get them to think twice about putting it on next year. Get a couple million people to sign it and they will think about it.
Where was the ESPN coverage? Any blips in sports center about this major international race? I know I didn't see any. If you want to get people to be interested in cycling we need to start with 5 sec of a Sports Center time for these races.

ESPN is to sports what MTV is to music. (That's all I'll say).

ESPN took poker and has made it a rage. If they pumped cycling like they do poker and say dogs jumping off a pier, it would gain popularity and you would see it on other channels...like ONL for instance.
I am just trying to say OLN isn't the only one at fault for us not seeing cycling on TV in the US.

If Armstrong raced the Vuelta this year and the last few years, there would still be no coverage.
Everyone says it's all Lance. But they play the Giro live every stage each year, and Armstrong has never raced it before.

Except this afternoon ;)
Champions League football is on
The big problem I have with OLN is they took cycling's popularity and displayed the sport, all advertising something that was temporary (mostly Armstrong's TDF challenge). If they had the skills, OLN could have actually created a lot of long term support.

Hey, Koffee, let us know the other forum where you discuss vuelta? Why ask cable provider to cut OLN, it's still better than the other channels I'll cut the whole cable if OLN's coverage of skiing is reduced like cycling. That channel is run by monkeys, like the others. I can get the news on internet, buy a couple of DVDs each month and spend less. If TV doesn't need me, I don't need TV.
guys, I don't think that comcast is gonna cut OLN since comcast owns OLN.
OLN seens everything before July as a run up to the tour, and everything
after July as a black hole.
