Bicycle Mechanics - Just picked my bike up from service, they cut my steerer tube and adjusted my stem

I took it for a ride around my neighborhood. If I carry a decent amount of speed and grab the front brake I hear a fairly loud pop sound.

Has the stem not been fastened correctly? Thoughts?

Other than taking it back to the shop for them to check out and rework, you can check the following:

1. see if the front brake caliper is installed properly. Is it tight to the frame.

2. check your to make sure your headset is adjusted properly. Lots of good links on how to do this on the web...check sheldon brown's website or the parktools website.

keep taking it back to the shop until it's fixed. Why do the work yourself? If it were a car you'd take it back. I'm not suggesting being a jerk about it, but be firm, especially if you purchased the bike there. It could be the star nut needs to be reset.

Headsets may settle after initial installation. Assuming the shop didn't **** up the work really, that is the only possible cause.
