Singlespeed & Fixed Gear - crankset

im building up my bike and im looking for a crankset, what are some good ones?

Let's give us a price range...

i guess no more than 150ish, is that reasonable? :o

just got omiums for 140 on ebay.

150 is a lot of money for cranks i think. you could be perfectly happy with something below 100

i dont know fixie cranks x] bmx cranks are expensive

so what brands are good?

sugino, truvativ (same company as sram), FSA, shimano, campagnolo...

brands are good, their prices, not necessarily...

If you buy good parts then when you decide to buy a new frame, and you will, you just Change over the parts and you're done.....
Never have to upgrade with good parts.

If you want to spend 50 bucks more i know of someone here in Dallas (bike mech) selling a sugnio 75 with a sugino zen racing 48T.....just example.

If you look around you will find GREAT parts for very little.

I actually like Sugino Grand Mighty a lot, I'd get one if I were to build a bike purely for the track.

omnium would be basically a bombproof crankset that will last you forever, so get those if you can get a good deal on em!

I've heard good things about Wipperman 108 chain, as well as Miche Primato track chain. Chain is a very personal thing, you could try the Wipperman 108 and see how it goes.

Yes. Exactly what happy pills said. Best bang for your buck. Not very good resale value though.

I may get an origin8 crankset on ebay for like $50, not bad for my injured wallet

Sugino RD is all you need for street riding.

I'd go with the Sugino RD or SRAM Omniums

i really like the eighth inch, any of you guys ever use them?

My friend uses them. Looks good, and very durable. Good bang for the buck.

My wife's got a set of EighthInch cranks. We both find them to be pretty damn good.

MKS + Christophe if you are on a budget. If you feel like spending alot, go with Toshi's. :)

Straps and clips or just straps?

If you just want straps, Holdfast and any BMX pedals will work...Demolition, Animal Hamilton, Odyssey Twisted...etc etc.

If you want straps + clips, then you could get a MKS Sylvian track pedals with MKS clips with leather straps.

I like how all our recommendations differ.
