I'm looking for a trailer that I can use with my suitcase for transporting my Bike Friday XLQ. I already have a hardshell suitcase that works quite well for this, so all I need is the frame.
I know Bike Friday makes a TravelTrailer frame that's quite neat, but I think the price is a little exaggerated (>$220 incl. bike hitch and with shipping) for what is effectively a bent piece of aluminum and two lawnmower wheels on nice bearings.
Suggestions, anyone?

Carry Freedom City sells for $600 in the US, folds flat, no loose parts, includes a sling bag that comes out quickly.
you can strap a suitcase on top of that bag , to the rim of the frame
have the bag as carry on and the frame of trailer and Suitcase as checked pieces.
Wandertec builds a version of the CF Y trailer Here , plywood deck to attach anything to.
They tried to sell them at $600, and they must have sat unsold, did a price cut.
seems like it changes a lot , today : $499, Maybe you can Haggle price over the phone.
to get it back down from there.

The Carry Freedom looks interesting. It's a little pricier than the Bike Friday TravelTrailer, but at least I get the feeling I'm buying something I couldn't make in my backyard given an afternoon of spare time and some aluminum tube. At what store did you buy your Y trailer?

Just looked Carry Freedom City shown at £314.99 their calculator = $429.29 USD .. international shipping may be Extra,
Customs may want import duty, too..
http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=11356
repriced, obviously fluid, at $389 just now, at : http://www.biketrailershop.com/carry-freedom-trailers-c-138.html
more like what I paid ..
unsold inventory does have a tendency to be subject to pricing changes ..

I agree the Bike Friday trailer is overpriced, but I can't see spending even more for the Carry Freedom. The BF trailer has the very useful feature that it fits inside the suitcase along with the bike which makes it far more practical for travel. BTW, I also use my BF trailer as a local utility trailer by adding a piece of plywood on top instead of the suitcase - just requires three holes to be drilled in the plywood sheet.

Shhh... Don't tell anyone, but I'll let you in on a little secret:
The "reconditioned" trailers listed by BikeRev on eBay are actually brand new. BikeRev is the company that manufactures the trailers for Bike Friday.
Here's their listing for a standard trailer:
http://cgi.ebay.com/Bike-Friday-Trailer-Frame-Only-Reconditioned-/280486232987
They have the heavy duty model listed as well.
The only downside to buying it directly from BikeRev on eBay is that they do not provide any warranty. If it breaks you are on your own.
Another little secret: I used the "Make Offer" button and offered them $110, and it was accepted. My friend offered $105 and they accepted that too! Total cost for him was $125 shipped.
You can get the Sampsonite F'lite suitcase for $125 shipped here:
http://www.amazon.com/Samsonite-Flite-Gt-31-Upright/dp/B003CE7KWM/ref=pd_sbs_a_4
And then you've got the whole setup for $250. That's about half price!

Done and done. The Carry Freedom looked interesting, but my offer for $105 was accepted. $124.50 shipped. That's a far sight better than the $219 that Bike Friday wants. Plus BF didn't include a trailer hitch, so that saves another $20.
Fantastic tip, thanks a mil sofauxboho!
