Classic & Vintage - Where to you put your spare sewup on the bike?

Getting into the sewup tire thing and have been using an old toe strap to put the spare tire under the saddle. However, my legs constantly hit the spare while pedaling.

If you're using sew ups - how do you carry the spare? Just trying to figure out if there's a better way.

Maybe it is how you have your tire folded. Here is mine. I copied how to fold it from the "Totally Tubular' thread.

I never unsed any fancy folding technique. I just fold them over 4 times and off I go

I used to carry mine under the seat in a worn out wool sock. Then I got a cannondale bag that was made for it. Still using that, not for tubulars though

yep: old sock to protect them, old toeclip strap to cinch them under the saddle..thin layer of glue on the base tape so they might stick when to replace one on the road. If your legs are hitting it/them when strapped under the saddle, using a shaped zippered bag might help with that, also carry just a single, not a pair.

In looking at the photos above I may just need to have more of the tire above the saddle which would then leave less against the seat post.

I have an old Eclipse tire bag. I used to always put it under the saddle like others, but recently moved it down. In this position the strap gives me a place to clip a light. Wouldn't work with centerpulls, though.

Another option I've seen is to cut the top off an old water bottle, stuff the tubulars inside and then use the 2nd water holder for the tubulars, if you don't need it for a 2nd water?

I use a couple velcro straps that came with my BBB mini tire pump to strap my spares under my saddles (The mini pump goes in my jersey pocket). I like the way that I can cinch it up nice an secure because it has a sturdy plastic loop that you can use to double the strap over itself, with no chance of loosening up.

Yeah, I often rode without regluing. I didn't ride carefully, and I never had a mishap. They say I was lucky.

I haven't ridden tubulars since about 1982.

I find that even with two coats of glue on the tire and folding it the "special" way, so there is base tape against base tape, works really well. Have to be careful when unfolding the tire. It sticks really well. I now use a sock to protect the glue from dust and dirt, even though I have been plagued with flats.
