Singlespeed & Fixed Gear - entry-level bike and wheels

just wondering what people's thoughts were on Windsor's The Hour track bike as an entry-level bike or any others recommend... the windsor's drilled. have campy record group to outfit the bike with. the windsor is sold "complete". also what are good wheels to get for the city. mostly for commuting in town and some late night shenanigans.

I'd replace a few things but for that price I'd take that over a Langster ;)

I'm pretty sure it is the Fuji Track (or whatever the cheaper one is called). If that's true, it's probably pretty decent based on what I've heard about the Fuji.

Both (Fuji and Windsor) are manufactured in the same factory, so I gathered.

once, i had a design prof. who would drop any project down a grade automatically if we used helvetica.

i'd say my two favorite san serifs are verdana and arial. now back on to your regularly scheduled topic...

Helvetica is too easy to use. It's both a bane and a safe choice. I generally like to mix it up if I have to use sans serifs with Akidenz Grotesk, Trade Gothic or Frutiger. However, a great typeface if Gotham, by Frere-Jones. I think it's one of the best modern faces to come out in ages, an instant classic.

As for serifs, Adobe Garamond and Caslon are good choices but I'm in love with Mrs. Eaves from Emigre. That and Clarendon (not only for titling).

Just to continue derailing things, fscking Comic Sans makes me want to punch people in the face. For your website or to print out things to hand out to school-aged children? Do whatever you want. For advertising? Blow me. Really.

I've had clients in the early days who wanted to use Comic Sans. These days, I tell them to find another designer.

Will_travel, if you have a Campy group already then do it justice and just buy a decent frameset. The Windsor is a Fuji (or vice versa) and is ok as entry level, but Campy deserves better than that frame/fork...actually, it deserves Italian steel. Hope you can find something good within your budget. Good luck!

Yeah I know its not a type face, I do a lot of print making and I was talking about type in general. Lino type is an out dated german type setting system that has absolutely no bering on modern laser cut plates which are now used.
