Some of you may have heard some buzz over it. The Black Bear is a 100-mile tour/race that allows recumbents to compete. It was yesterday, 7/25/2010. This year, Dave Johnson took first place overall, riding his streamliner, "Great White." Dave's time was 3:42, slightly off from his record time of 3:38; probably due to riding with the top open for ventilation.

Second place went to some upright, with a time of 3:54. Third place was 67-Y.O. Bill Hannon in his F-40, at 3:56.

Lowracer1 and I teamed up to do the "McKinley Event" which is a 2-man relay. Our combined time was 3:59, according to the printouts. Considering the lead he had when I took over from Lowracer1, I was catching him! Dang!

Anyway, there were something like 13 or 14 recumbent representatives there, including two streamliners and a couple of socked bikes. All the recumbents put on a good show! The full century is a real slog for me, but I found doing it as a relay completely changed the complexion of the event, turning it into a fun sprint. Official results will probably be posted in a few days.
