Classic & Vintage - ****ATTN: All Members of C&V, Read this Please and Thank You

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Recently, we had a little dispute that played out on the C&V Forum. There were a lot of issues with that thread, but one stuck out in particular. Personal Information (real name) was released on the site, and that's really not cool. This individual received harassing messages via both email and PM over this dispute, as well, from people not involved in the transaction, and this does violate our guidelines. I don't know who it was yet, that were involved in the harassment issue, though and am investigating. We take this issue very seriously, so don't do it.

Are we to assume this arose from a transaction in the For Sale forum?

I'm not sure if it matters where this happened. I assume that the guilty party(ies) know who they are. Alas, I don't know what this is about either, but it is a good idea to give us a reminder to be civil. After all, C&Vers are like big kids. We can lose our cool.

No it doesn't matter....I was just curious if it WAS over a financial transaction: "This individual received harassing messages via both email and PM over this dispute, as well, from people not involved in the transaction, and this does violate our guidelines."

No, it arose after a dispute was aired out here in the main C&V forum that basically turned into a mixture of reasonable posts and a dog pile. The dog pile part was what was the issue, as well as the back channel harassment that apparently occurred. This message is directed at those in particular that went back channel and started harassing and intimidating. This isn't cool, and hopefully, they'll get the message and it won't happen again.

I'm guessing it was the impulse buy thread with the kinked chainstay

It really bums when I hear of nonsense like this. This particular forum has been historically a haven from the childish antics seen on other forums and venues. I hope the admins can find those creating any kind of personal harrasment and rectify the situation.
Though I have only been a member for a short time and you all know I am a rank amateur when it comes to vintage bicycle, this forum has always treated me as a welcome friend. I tell many of my friends they should check this site out and hope that it will continue it's famous hospitality and not fall into the old traps that trolls and other degenerates set up. IMHO

Don't know the details...
Don't care to know.

Happy to know it is being addressed. Like soonerbills I've had nothing but positive experiences on this sub forum, and enjoy and appreciate all the insight.

Thanks for handling it, Tom!

This was my thread. It began with me simply showing off a purchase and asking for information.

It turned out to be a bad purchase and it spun out of control.

This IS a wonderful and very civil place. I’ve received lots and lots of sound advice and good suggestions. I am very sorry it was my own thread that spun out of control, and I apologize for my part in allowing that to happen. It is not who I am.

I apologize to the forum.

I am surprised that it escalated to this level. I realize that there certainly were some actions taken by both parties that were not in the spirit of the C&V community. I am, however, glad that everything was resolved amicably. I hope this dark patch on the C&V forum will be forgotten and we can move on it. It seems to me that this thread really showcased the passion of C&Vers, unfortunately things escalated to a negative and aggressive level. Let's all have a big group hug and forgedddaaabout'it

I think this has been up long enough for the point to have been made. Unstuck and thread closed.
