General Cycling Discussion - Name that size!

Can anyone tell me what size they think this frame is?

It's either 56 or 58cm.

If you are looking for help in figuring out the size, measure from the center of the crank spindle bolt to the center/top of the top tube.

If you want guesses, I'll go with 58--solely on the head tube length.;)

well, your standard park bench has an overall height of 31 ½ " . based off of the top tube being just under the top of the bench, correcting for angle of picture, and taking into account the length and angle of the shadow cast, if i were to triangulate those figures, i would say the size of the bike is either a grande or venti, no room for cream, thanks.

Looking at the headtube length, I'd put it at 25" or about 63cm. I measured the crank arm in the picture and assumed a 170mm crank then worked out a ratio of picture length to fit that 170mm crank. Applying that ratio to the frame, I came up with something very close to 63cm.

The best way to tell is to measure the seat tube, of course.

I'll split the difference and say 57cm.

On my monitor, it's about 3 inches... maybe 2.87.

I like your thinking but a more definitive standard might be the diameter of the wheels rather than the crank length. I wonder if they are 700c or 27"?

Ratios are just about the same. The difference between a 27" rim and a 700 C is only 7mm in real life. On the screen that's almost unmeasurable.

i would have said 60-62cm... the head tube is a lot longer than on my 56 cm bikes... & I like cycommute's method, its a little more scientific than eyeballing.

I actually have calibrated eyeballs (I knew the head tube was too tall for a 58) but I just wanted something a bit more empirical to back up the eyeballs;)

cyccommute: If your pics of the 63cm and 58cm are 'normal' size, then the OP's pic MAY be a 59 or 60, but there seems to be quite a bit of difference in head tube length in the 63 pic and the OP's pic.

There is some variance between manufactures on headtube length (lots of it actually:rolleyes:) but the main thing to look at is that the headtube on ziggy's picture is much longer than the 23" bike I posted. Look at the seatstays and how high the top tube is in relation to the rear wheel. Ziggy's is much closer to a 25" than the 23".

I wouldn't try this, by the way, with a sloping top tube bike. But old horizontal top tube frames are pretty easy to eyeball the size...especially big boys like this one.
