so im in the market for a hybrid bike. i've been through 5 LBS and i've tried everything from the trek 7.2, giant fcr, sirrus, tachyon 3.0 and diamondback insight 1. the one's i really like are the sirrus and the tachyon 3.0, both are very comfortable bikes for me. now im just wondering which bike has better components? im new to biking so i have no idea which components are better.
heres a link to both bikes, and also both bikes are priced at $500 at the LBS
gt tachyon 3.0

If it was me, I'd opt for the Sirrus ----

As far as the components go, the Sirrus has more of a MTB-style drive train with slightly smaller chain rings and the Altus derailleurs.
The Tachyon has more of a road bike set up with larger chain rings and the Sora derailleur.
I test rode a Tachyon. There was something about it that I didn't really like. Apparently GT frames are huge because at 5' 11" I was riding a small frame and it wasn't much different than the medium frames I tried from other manufacturers.

I can only speak to the fact that I haven't had any issues my the components on my 2010 Sirrus Sport. Awesome bike. Great road handling and beautiful looks to boot. Very comfortable too.

yah im leaning more towards the sirrus because i've found so many reviews on it while the tachyon only had 1 review... the tachyon does feel like more of a road bike (which i want) but im just scared that if i do buy the tachyon that it wont last for very long. even the LBS was telling me that the components aren't very sturdy....

The tachyon has a 30-42-52 crankset, which is nice, but only if you do speeds on the flat above about 18 mph.
If you are not going to do any speeds above that, there's little point in getting a "race" style crank.
I don't see why the components on the tachyon should be crappy ... they are about on par with the sirrus.
In fact some are even better, like the cassette that is better on the tachyon than it is on the sirrus.
