My bent has a wheel base of 52" and I drive a Dodge Ram 1500 long box pickup truck. Normally I have a tonneau cover attached to the bed that hinges to the truck box also in the back of the truck bed. However due to the cover shrinking it has been off the back of the box this summer.

I have looked at Yakama and Thule's versions of mounting versions for a bike to the truck. Does anyone transport their 'bents like this in a truck? And is the bent vertically running the lenght of the box or horizonally sideways in the box?

Or is laying the bent down in the box for short term travel to and fro to rideable trails ok on the bent?

Any suggestions would help out this newbie.
Thanks,
Wisaxet

I have extensively transported my RANS Tailwind on laying on the left side (derailluers up) in the back of my daughter's Ford Explorer. I've also gone short distances in the same manner (bike laying on left side) in the back of the wife's F-250 pickup. If you lay it down be sure to pad any "tender" areas with towels or something that will prevend damage/scuffing to the bike. You can use bungee cords to limit bike movement so it doesn't slide around in the bed of the truck.

Get a moving pad and lay it down--won't hurt a thing.

I have a Dodge Ram 2500. I also have a soft tonneau cover on it and suffer the same problems.
I use a hitch mounted Draftmaster rack for my Burley. It holds the bike almost straight up.
