Tandem Cycling - Santana Rhine Moselle 2010 Trip

We experienced sunny, hot weather for almost all of the trip. The Taylor tandem performed well and we are were able to pack, build and repack without incident even with TSA taking a peek at one of the S&S cases on the way over. This was a major relief as it was our first experience with traveling with a coupled tandem. Cars, drivers and people treated us well in France, Germany, Luxembourg and The Netherlands. We can't wait to visit the Moselle another time though there were some steep sections to climb coming out of the river valley.

We just stumbled upon this in Speyer, Germany. Speyer is most well known for its cathedral but they were celebrating the 100 year anniversary of the Bretzel Fest. The whole town was decorated with pretzels and there was German beer for tasting as well. There was an American singing group performing in the square. It was quite surreal to hear the songs from Grease as we approached.

Nice pics! Looks like a good time. I'd be interested to see the daily itinerary for the trip to try and match it up with the pics.

We've ridden a lot in many of these area, and just about every year spend a few days to two weeks along the Rhine in SW Germany near the town of Breisach am Rhein. Great area for riding, as is the Mosel and surrounding region. This year we were there for a week in June (and then another week in Provence, which is another story). We brought our triplet along and did day rides. I then spent another 1.5 weeks at my company's German HQ near Heidelberg, getting in a few rides using a rented single bike, including a nice day ride to Speyer on the Rhine. I agree it's a pretty town!

Germany and Austria are still my favorite places to ride in Europe. Great cycling infrastructure, a cultural bias toward biking, good facilities, etc.

Thanks for posting your pictures . . we've not been so prompt. We were one of the triplets on that trip . . and our son Andrew shot all of our photos . . many from the back seat of the bike. We concur on the Moselle . . very beautiful . . and a place we woldn't hesitate to go again on our own . . maybe up past the point where the river got too skinny for the Amadeus Diamond. My only frustration on the trip was that I'd have liked to spend about twice as much time at every stop . . but would have I given up anything to see more of some . . NO. Which means the trip was as good as it could have been . . . and we just need to go back!!

I am on business travel till next Tuesday and don't have the exact itinerary in front of me but if Wayne hasn't posted it by then I will do it on Wednesday. I don't trust my memory enough to post without double checking.

was 370. We missed an afternoon of riding, longest day for us was ~76 miles. Sorry for the late reply but we headed down to MATES rally and didn't bring a computer. There were certainly people who did more and less.
