My husband and I are going camping for the first time with our Treks. What's the best way to lock up our bikes at night? We were thinking about leaving them on the car with the Yakima rack. Any suggestions? Thanks!

I've got a better idea...... Load your camping gear on your Treks and leave your car at home.... :D

Common sense prevails. If the rack is a hitch mount you should be able to use cables and lock them to the hitch/rack.

Don't forget a locking hitch pin to prevent them from just taking the whole works and sorting it out later.

If you have a reciever hitch, you can use a cable lock and run the cable through the safty chains loops. I have a tent large enough to put the bikes in with me (20'x15'x6').

I have used a tree and a cable lock.

Campers tend to be an honest group of people. I've even had negitive comments about locking my bike while camping, but I ride for fitness not fun, and I don't want to end up without my bike(s).

When camping, you are general dealing with "kids", rather than "thieves.

A simple cable lock should do, and keeping them out of the line of site when possible.
