Mountain Biking - SuperT vs. Marz 66

I'm looking to buy a new fork. My choices are narrowed down to either an '04 SuperT Pro or the newer '05 66 7" (SC fork).

I'm thinking about going with the superT. That way the fork won't act much like a lever. (Which is what I think the 66 would do). So lets hear what you guys think. Answer the poll. If you have any suggestions pick option #3.

have you looked into the 888 those are soo nice i got a chance to see them in action and man those are one nice front fork...the monster t is pretty fat to... i take it your sticking with the italian made marz rather than say manitou or rock shock... the manitou dorado mrd-x is phat phat phat... the boxxer is pretty cool got to see those in action was fairly impressed.. i was mor impressed with the 888 from marz than anything else..

I see what you mean. Yes the 888 looks like a SWEET fork. But I have a budget. Ands going WAY over. I'm thinking $600 max. I found the SuperT for $550.

SuperT has been made obsolete unless you plan on buying last years. And in either case the 2004 is better related to a jrT with the lacking hsvc cartridge so I would say 66.

So far its looking like 170mm Marz. 66 RC! Hopefully the pricing will go as imagined.

Boxxer Ride I tell you that your bike is perfect for it.

I haven't heard anything about a 1.5" steerer. That would be surprising considering how against the standard they are.

For trail riding...generally yes...but for dh you lean the bike to turn not turn the handlebar. The amount of steer available is almost pointless when going fast :D

as far as i know, marzocchi's sticking with the 1 1/8" standard. and i don't think they're going to go to 1.5"...

as for the original question, if you want the single crown, then go for the 66. you won't void the warranty on your bike either...

but if you don't care about the warranty, then i'd say go for the boxxer ride just like konarider suggested. either that or the boxxer race, which according to the price listing by sram is a bit cheaper.

Ok....heres how it goes. The 66 and 888 A-C heights are very simliar, due to the beefier crown on the 66. The retail should be around $700 I believe for the 66.....I might be a bit off. Its not a 1.5 HT, standard HT size. Im with b1105 though, and always have been. Dont listen to whoever said that the 04' SuperT is like the JRT, he is absolutely wrong. There have been no noted differences between the 04' and 03' dampening despite the change in the one cartridge(forget which leg). If you get one of those forks, and crack your frame due to the high A-C height, Haro aint gunna do a thing pal.

I don't expect them too. I'm done dealing with them.

marzocchi wil do a 1.5 steerer i know cuz they use them on the new ironhorse freeride line.. they come standard with the 11/8 but they can and will do the 1.5.

K man, think what you want. Marz. isnt doing a 1.5 for 05'.....unless its some crazy option in fine print. I have a website for all the 05' marz stuff, and its not saying anything about a 1.5. What do they gain going 1.5? Thats why they have the larger crown, and chromoly steerer.....

an6, are you sure they don't use a reducer headset? They are on the ironhorse lineup but use a reducer headset. To give in to the 1.5" diameter now would be shooting themselves in the foot. They are deadset against it and believe it to not be required. I also saw the ENTIRE 05 lineup at the rollout in whistler (crankworx was their world display) and no mention or hint and inkling of a 1.5 steer tube. In fact if anything, IF you bring up 1.5 being needed you would likely get into a diameter strength argument with their techs. I am not saying I don't believe you...just that I am 99.99999% sure that that isn't possible.

Also..which ironhorse has marz. Ironhorse doesn't typically use marz due to costs and sticks with rock shox and manitou.

Iron horse uses a reducer with the forks I am very very certain with this.

ok so thats what it is they use the reducer. k so thats my bad but i knew they were using the 1.5" .kewl . either way they use manitou and thats 1.5"steerer . the top downhill bike they have has the boxxer front fork and the freeride models come with the shermans... either way bro i would go with the 05 66's man with 170mm or travel dude for that price you can't go wrong...
